Play Time

RETO NEIGER FS 720 melon OFF THE HIP

Reto Neiger, Berner Oberland tearer and good mate shot us through this link to Play Gravity 2, the sequel, that is well worth a look. It follows a bunch of different people doing the different things they do for a rush. From snowboarding to skydiving and kitesurfing to speedflying. If the first movie is anything to go by, this will be a cracker. Shot around Europe(a lot of it Switzerland and the Berner Oberland region) and Alaska with POV footage and amazing landscapes you don't have to be a lover of any of the lifestyles to appreciate this.

Ceck it out.

So the last few days have been a bit of a nightmare! All was going to plan. I had been recovering after surgery and things have been going pretty well, slowly getting movement and strength back and generally feeling pretty good about the knee and my chances being able to go travel by mid February/March.

I ducked out to do a quick run to the shops on Monday night when some guy decides to try play a game of chicken against me(when I had the green light). I hit the skids but it was to late, the resulting crash gave my hamstring a solid tweak on my injured leg near where they took the graft but after seeing my physio yesterday I'm confident its just a minor setback although frustrating and pretty sore. Was scary to think the knee could have been back to square one and glad it wasn't worse. Just gonna tone down my rehab for a day or so then it's back into full blown
knee rape.

On a lighter note been scoping out a few skate spots to go shoot soon. Look out for a skate edit before too long.

Also just picked up the lastest issue of AUSNZ
Snowboarder. Good friend Andy 'Kat" Lawrence has an editorial in it that he shot and did the story for featuring Aussie shred, Jye Kearney in Austria. Sick shots Kat!

Goodbye Winter......Again

Well its finally over. For the third time this year I say goodbye to the snowboard season. Had an epic time on the Horstman Glacier today and only had to pay half the lift ticket due to the T Bar breaking down. Today I concentrated on filming for my new webisode I hope to have edited within a week. I got some great footage. Ive attached a photo as a teaser for what you can expect to see in the upcoming flick. I know ive been hammering these sequence shots lately but I just love the feature that my new cam has got. Bring on November and the 2010/11 season. I cant wait.

Whistler Fun

Photobucket
Cole came to visit last week. It was action packed and epic to see a mate from home. We skated, rode our bikes, went snowboarding and even went fishing and I tried to get as much footage and pics as i could. Im working on a short film to release in a couple of weeks, after a day or two more on the glacier. Until then here are some pics showing some of the highlights of the weekend.

New Logo.

I've had a lot of time on my hands with the injury so decided to throw an idea together for a new logo. Liked the idea of an vintage looking TV and pieced together the idea in paint before calling our friend Oska to lend his Photoshop skills.

This is where they are at so far, between Zak, Oska and myself we are going to put the finishing touches to the layout and colour ways in the near future.

Stay tuned.

CHEAP METH

Not the the type that keeps fiends awake for days speaking in riddles.

This just in from Methodmag, As of September the Mag will be coming at you at a price even we can afford. We grabbed this off the site.

"This is going out to all you infidels and non-believers... METHOD Magazine will now be FREE! That's right. You can now get your favorite shred mag at your local shop for absolutely nothing. First issue bomb drops in September. Just watch the video fool, these jib jihadists will let you know what's up!?''

METHOD IS FREE! from MethodTV on Vimeo.

Official Press Realease

METHOD announces that we will completely change our distribution for the upcoming 10/11 winter season, leaving newsstands and becoming a free publication distributed across Europe in over 1,200 shops continent-wide.

Snowboarding thrives on progression. Here at METHOD we believe that ethos should be followed by snowboard media as well, and we have been at the forefront of the digital revolution the whole way. But we also feel that nothing beats a quality magazine as the ultimate showcase for snowboarding, and we definitely know how to make them.

What it boils down to is that every advertiser wants to broaden their reach and increase sales, and making METHOD Magazine free is a sure-fire way to guarantee just that. When you add the fact that we will also be offering a free digital version on our site, www.methodmag.com, it creates unbeatable ROI for every advertiser.

METHOD CEO Rasmus Ostergaard explains the reasoning behind going free: "It's very simple, over the past 5 years it's become increasingly clear that newsstand sales are in steady decline. Sadly, our target audience simply doesn't buy magazines anymore. We could continue working with the old paradigm or radically change our business model to adapt to the market's new realities."

"Going free is a win-win situation for everyone -advertisers, retailers, readers, riders and photographers. From now on METHOD will be found where it counts most, namely core snowboard shops and other spots where snowboarders hang out. With a 100% pick-up rate as opposed to 30-40% sell-through rates* (*generally accepted as an industry standard), plus the digital version also offered for free on our site, we will hit more eyeballs than any other snowboard magazine in Europe, effectively increasing our advertisers' reach in the process."

Thomaz Autran Garcia, METHOD Editor in Chief, said "I'm really excited about this decision, I think it's a step in the right direction for our company and I'm looking forward to the editorial freedom we'll have from here on out. METHOD was already the best snowboard mag out there, now we're going to take things to 11!".

So once again METHOD is upping the ante and changing the game. We hope you'll join us on this new adventure in the wild and wacky world of METHOD.

Into The Wild

Found this edit on the Flux bindings website. Titled Mr Alaska it is a teaser for a release coming out of Alaska from one of their team riders. Not focusing on the standard big mountain riding and helicopters we are used to seeing from up that way, these guys instead shred around the streets, hitting handrails and fun features as well as build jumps on the hill.

Check it out and admire some of the Ak scenery.

NINTENDSNOW

Filmed last season at Hood, released only on Monday because the editing took a full year.
Knife Show would have to be one of the most creative bunch of filmers and editors in the game. If you have not seen their work you should check it out whether you are into snowboarding or not.
From the same guys that bought you classics like Gnarwars and Giants of Big Bear comes this, their latest edit based on 80s and 90s video games.
Hope you enjoy.

San Francisco

Photobucket

So I went for a trip to San Francisco last week. Packed my bags, locked my apartment and said goodbye to my adopted home of whistler.

Waiting in the line to check my bag at Vancouver airport wondering if this was gonna be a trip to remember or one to forget, bang! managed to get my skate board on the plane for free, "going well so far" I thought. Then got bumped up to a exit seat on the second flight out of SLC, "leg room, two in a row!".

On arrival I went to the bank to get money out to last the trip, I punched $400 into the machine and twentys started poring out, then all of a sudden two Benji's appeared, Id got $560 for no extra cost. It was then I knew for sure this was going to be a classic trip.

On one of the first days there I was walking down the street a little lost, next thing I look up and there it was the ledgendary gold rail down the 30 step at the Hyatt hotel that John Cardiel 5050'd. Seeing this in real life gave me goose bumps, its even more gnarlier up close to what it looks like on video. My first day in town and to see such an iconic spot, I was pumped!

San fran has everything you could want great skating, shopping, good parties, great food and even surf if your keen enough.

Lucky, fun and very different to anywhere else ive been sum up my SF experience and if you get a chance head there and heck it out and don't forget to bomb a hill.

I finally got a new camera on the trip, a Casio Fh100, it has some pretty cool features with sequence shots up to 40fps and slowmotion video up to 1000fps so much of the trip was spent checking out the sites and playing with my new toy. Here are a few of the images I shot

VOLCOM MOUNTAIN CLEAN UP

Big OWWW! to all the people who headed up the mountain for scab duty on the 26th of last month. Epic to see people getting up there and doing something for the mountains that give us so much.

From all reports it was a sick day. Really wish we could have been there to help out. Hopefully there will be even less rubbish to collect next summer.

Well done.

VBS SKATE SWEDEN

This is one of our all time favourite websites. From the creators for VICE magazine it documents all sorts of things from skating to music to the environment. This particular edit came out a few weeks back and is part one of a series following the skate evolution in Sweden. Their DIY attitude towards skating has to be seen as does this site in general.

Do yourself a favour if you haven't already and follow this link, bookmark it, then go and see what you can find. There is stuff for days.

SURGERY

Got home last night after thirty six hours in the hospital. Surgery went well although I was under the knife for about 45 munites longer than expected due to the knee needing a solid clean up.

Here's a few pics snapped over the two days in hospital and today at home when I took off the bandage.

Cheers to DR Fick for the new knee
